Hard Work Gets Winger Massive Salary Increase As Campbell All Smiles

After a slow start, Joel Campbell has managed to convince Wenger he is worth a big pay raise delivered through a new contract that will extend his stay up until 2020. Even though it was difficult to give the Costa Rican a chance after his first couple of games when he disappeared from the game 20 minutes after the match started. He has grown a lot though and proved that he just needed some Premier League experience to start showing what he’s capable of. According to the Daily Star, Wenger insisted for the young winger to stay and play for Arsenal despite the consistent revenue brought in by his loan deals. He also insisted to talk to Campbell and convincing him to stay with the club at least until January. Apparently the youngster was planning on leaving.

The 23-year-old is expected to start earning around £60,000-per-week which is close to what Flamini and Arteta are making right now. Campbell surprised Wenger in the most pleasant way and managed to make his way into the first team not by showing off but by working harder than everyone. “You want to be surprised by the quality of your players and where he surprises you is in the intensity of his teamwork”, Wenger said. “I have the choice on the flank between many players and he is one of the players who has come in at a very sensitive period. I flat-refused to let him go because I saw something in him that gives you belief, because of his attitude.”

Campbell started with Arsenal in 2011 and has always told the press that his future is at the Emirates. Apparently, working hard paid off as now he is used regularly. He has gained confidence and has momentum which could help him remain the number one pick on the right side. It will be difficult to make a choice when all the players are fit, especially with Sanchez, Walcott, Chamberlain and possibly Welbeck battling it out for the same position.
