Arsenal may consider making a bid for Borussia Monchengladbach striker Marcus Thuram during the January transfer window, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Reports in Italy last week suggested that the Gunners and four other teams were interested in the Frenchman, with his contract set to expire next summer. Asked whether a move for a knockdown price in January could be a possibility, Romano replied:
“So there are many clubs approaching his agent. From what I’m told, he’s not going to extend the contract, so it makes a big opportunity for many clubs in the summer. Let’s see if Arsenal will decide, or any other club, to negotiate in January for a different price.”
Thuram has been in excellent form for Gladbach this campaign, having bagged 13 goals in all competitions. He has been playing exclusively as a striker since the arrival of Daniel Farke as manager, though, so he may not be what Arsenal are looking for.
Mikel Arteta’s side are seeking to reinforce their forward line, but it has been assumed that a winger is the priority. Thuram has played out wide in the past but he wouldn’t be a like-for-like replacement for the likes of Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka.
The 25-year-old’s goal record and low price may, however, tempt the Gunners into making a bid in the New Year.
