Four Potential Alternatives If Arsenal Can’t Seal Tierney Deal

Four Potential Alternatives If Arsenal Can’t Seal Tierney Deal

Arsenal have had a second bid rejected for Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney, according to reports. The latest offer was said to be £17.5m plus £7.5m in add-ons.

The Gunners are believed to be determined to continue their pursuit of the 22-year-old but it remains to be seen how high they will go in order to secure a deal for the Scottish international.

If they do fail in their attempts to sign Tierney, are there alternatives on the market that the London club should be looking at? Here are four possible options:

Marcel Halstenberg – RB Leipzig

At 27 years of age, he is five years older than Tierney but he excelled playing at left-back in the Bundesliga last season.

Marcel Halstenberg

He scored four goals and provided eight assists in 37 appearances for Leipzig, and was part of the best defence in the league.

Halstenberg was also employed as a wing-back on occasion last campaign, and would certainly fit in if Gunners boss Unai Emery chose to go with a 3-5-2 system.

Ricardo Rodriguez – AC Milan

The Swiss international is reportedly available this summer. The Rossoneri are likely to make some sales following the news of their ban from European competitions due to Financial Fairplay breaches.

Rodriguez is an attacking fullback and has an excellent left-foot that can deliver good crosses into the box. Again, like Halstenberg, he is comfortable in a wing-back role. Defensively, though, he isn’t the best, and that may put off the Gunners from making a bid.

Theo Hernandez – Real Madrid

The brother of World Cup winner Lucas Hernandez, the Frenchman has been heavily linked with Milan this summer but could be a good solution for Arsenal’s left-back problems.

He spent last season away from parent club Real Madrid out on loan at Real Sociedad, making 28 appearances, scoring one goal and contributing two assists.

Hernandez is very good in possession and at 21 years of age, has room to improve every area of his game.

Fode Ballo-Toure – Monaco

The 22-year-old is a very attacking fullback and anyone who saw him in action for France at the European Under 21 Championships will know his defending leaves a lot to be desired.

However, he is a bright young prospect, and while he may have only moved from Lille in January, he is one to keep an eye on.

Ballo-Toure would also be equally capable of playing in a four-man backline as well as in a 3-5-2, having been utilised by Monaco in more advanced positions.
