Former Chelsea Player Announces Arrival At Arsenal On Instagram

Jorginho, who signed for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal from Chelsea on transfer deadline day, has posted a photo of himself on Instagram of him holding up his Arsenal shirt. As the shirt denotes, he will be assigned the squad number 20.

The number 20 has previously been adorned by Gunners players of the past such as Philippe Senderos, Johan Djourou and Mathieu Flamini.

In the post, which showed Jorginho with a beaming smile on his face, Arsenal kit in hand, he wrote: “New chapter. New challenges.”

He was wished well for the future by several of his former teammates, from his time at Chelsea and Napoli. Among them were Raheem Sterling, Kai Havertz and former Leicester player Gokhan Inler.

Sterling, who joined Chelsea in the summer from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, wrote: “All the best brother.”

Meanwhile, German international Havertz left a very similar message on Jorginho’s post, writing: “all the best, Bro.”

Billy Gilmour also wished his former Chelsea compatriot well, as he left a comment that read: “All the best Jorgi”.

The Italian midfielder’s move to Arsenal was for a reported total fee of £12 million. This is far less than what Chelsea initially paid for him – he initially moved to Stamford Bridge in 2018 for £57 million.

Jorginho isn’t likely to immediately come into the first team. He will, however, provide plenty of competition for the likes of Thomas Partey and Granit Xhaka.

A talented midfielder who likes to control the tempo of a game, Jorginho’s contributions can often go unnoticed. Regardless, his brilliant passing ability will make him a useful addition to the Gunners’ strong squad.
