Arsenal are scouting Brighton right-back Tariq Lamptey but they have yet to make a decision on whether to make an offer for the 20-year-old, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Italian journalist claims the former Chelsea player is very much on the Gunners’ shortlist of targets for the summer, although no approach has been made:
“I can confirm that Arsenal are scouting him, they are following him closely. But, just to clarify – at the moment there is nothing close. It’s just scouting a player [who is] appreciated, but there is nothing close to an agreement with Brighton. There are no advanced negotiations. I can say that Arsenal want to sign a right-back, but they have a list – there are many names.”
Lamptey is undoubtedly a very talented player, and he would add an extra dimension to Arsenal’s attack, considering his strengths lie in the final third of the pitch.
However, the England Under 21 international’s injury record may well stop Mikel Arteta‘s side from making a bid for the defender. He has only made 11 appearances during his first full season at the Seagulls due to a serious hamstring injury.
It was confirmed earlier this month that Lamptey needed an operation on the problem and he is not expected to play again this campaign, having last featured in a match all the way back in December.
