REPORT: Arteta Wanted To Make Example Of Aubameyang After Series Of Disciplinary Breaches

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was keen to make it public that Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was benched for the North London derby due to disciplinary reasons, according to The Sun.

The newspaper reports that the Gunners boss has not been impressed with the player’s attitude after a number of breaches, and he wanted to send a message that such behaviour would not be tolerated.

Aubameyang was fined after being refused permission to travel for a Europa League game earlier this season due to the fact he had turned up late for a virus screening.

The Gabonese international was also warned a few weeks ago when he broke lockdown rules to get a new tattoo. After turning up late for the game at the Emirates on Sunday, it was seen as the final straw.

Although Arteta now feels the issue has been dealt with, there is still some concerns about Aubameyang, considering he did not take part in the warm down like the rest of the unused substitutes at the weekend.

His captaincy is not under threat currently, but it will be interesting to see how he reacts after Arteta lays down the law.
