Despite a good performance in Manaus, England failed to grab three points against Italy in their first Group D match of Brazil 2014 and now face a “do or die” match against Uruguay in the hope of trying to salvage their World Cup campaign.

A Mario Balotelli header snatched victory for Italy last weekend after a valiant performance from Hodgson’s side, where players such as Raheem Sterling showed they could adapt to the international stage. With two games left in Group D, a win against Uruguay would put England a step closer to the last 16 but with the likes of Edison Cavani and the now fit Luis Suarez lining up for Uruguay it is definitely going to require Hodgson’s star players to perform.
