Fagner Speaks Out For The First Time Following Claims Of Arsenal Switch

Corinthians right-back Fagner has denied any knowledge about a possible switch to Arsenal this summer.

Reports in Brazil had suggested that the 30-year-old had been targeted by the Gunners but when asked whether there had been any contact with the London club, the defender said:

“Honestly, so far nothing has come, I do not know anything, I was focused on the Copa América, just as I’m going back to the club [with the focus] coming here to help in the best way possible. If something arrives, the businessman will inform me, [my] head [is] 100% with Corinthians.”

Intriguingly though, Fagner did not completely rule out a move to Europe, saying that anything could happen in the future:

“Hard to close the door, right? As I always say, I am very happy in Corinthians, building a beautiful story, there is no reason for me to say that I will leave, that I want to leave, but [in] football things happen overnight.”

It wouldn’t be a surprise if Arsenal were interested in signing the fullback. With Edu having been recently announced as technical director, he will likely have targets in his native Brazil.

He will know Fagner well after his time as technical coordinator for Brazil’s national side, and the Gunners are probably looking out for a new right-back.

Stephan Lichtsteiner has left the club after his contract expired, and with Hector Bellerin unlikely to be fit for the start of the season, Fagner could well be needed.
