Arsenal are preparing a bid for Corinthians right-back Fagner, according to Fox Sports Brazil.
The 30-year-old is a target for the Gunners’ new technical director Edu, who is expected to take up his role officially following the Copa America final between Brazil and Peru on Sunday.
Fagner only signed a three-year contract extension back in January, and it’s unlikely that Corinthians will want to sell the Brazilian international.
He is currently Dani Alves’s understudy at the Copa America and hasn’t played a single minute at the tournament so far.
Fagner is likely being eyed as an economical replacement for Stephan Lichtsteiner, who left Arsenal when his contract expired at the back end of last month.
Hector Bellerin is still recovering from an ACL injury and may miss the start of the campaign, leaving manager Unai Emery with just Ainsley Maitland-Niles to fill the right-back slot heading into the new season.
