Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira put in another excellent display against Bodo/Glimt midweek and there have been calls in certain quarters for the Portuguese star to be handed starts in the Premier League.
However, when asked whether manager Mikel Arteta should consider starting the 22-year-old against Liverpool, most fans on Twitter were against the idea:
He doesn’t deserve to start

Whether he starts or comes in as a substitute, we’ll beat Liverpool

I prefer Ø to start and he comes on second half. They are both good but captain been fit he has to start

No! His time will come. He can do a job in the 2nd half.

Hell no. Odegaard is one of the best attacking midfielder in the league.

Simply put No

Definitely a No, yeah, he is doing well, a joy to watch, but odegaard is still preferred in that position, I’m loving that competition though 🤍

He’s a gem, great sub option.

As they say, there is no reason to change a winning team and, after beating Tottenham 3-1 last weekend, it would be a shock if Arteta opted to select Vieira ahead of Martin Odegaard.
There is an argument to be made that the Norwegian international doesn’t always turn up in the big matches but he is the club captain, so it’s hard to see a scenario where he would be dropped.
Vieira is undoubtedly an outstanding footballer, though, and if he continues to perform at the levels we have seen recently, Arteta may have no choice but to hand him more starting opportunities in the not too distant future.
