After managing to snatch away Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid this summer, Arsene Wenger intended to return to the Bernabeu and lure Angel di Maria to the Emirates Stadium too. He faced a real crunch in wide players this season due to multiple casualties to Theo Walcott, Lukas Podolski and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Though the first two are now back in action, Wenger is wary that such a situation occurring once again could have more serious repercussions. He wants to add strength in depth in wide players, starting with the acquisition of di Maria.
The Argentine was expected to be completely pushed out following the big money arrival of another left-footed wide man Gareth Bale, but has managed to feature sporadically in the first team. It is not enough for his liking and he would like to play more often. He is also prepared to quit Real Madrid if he can get regular first-team football elsewhere.
Italian champions Juventus seem to have caught his attention, claim Metro. The Serie A giants are a serious force to be reckoned with this season, both domestically and in Europe. The prospect of lining up alongside world beaters like Carlos Tevez, Andrea Pirlo and Arturo Vidal is something which has excited di Maria, who wishes to switch from Real Madrid to Juventus in the summer.
It looks like Arsenal and Tottenham, who have also made their interest in the wideman clear, will have their work cut out to sign him ahead of Juventus and instead bring him to the Premier League. Will they be able to do so in the summer? Things will definitely get interesting as Manchester United are also reportedly keen on the Argentininian attacker.
