Arsenal may be underdogs if both the Gunners and Manchester United have bids accepted for Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez, according to journalist Charles Watts.
Goal‘s Arsenal correspondent says that neither team have agreed a fee for the €50m (£43m) rated Argentinian international so far, but the player wants a move to England:
Martinez latest
– Player met with Ajax yesterday after returning to Amsterdam and reiterated determination to move to the PL
– No bids accepted
– Feeling remains that Utd would have an advantage if bids are accepted because of EtH connection, but door not closed on Arsenal.

It does seem as if the presence of former manager Erik ten Hag at United could be a key factor, but the Gunners are said to be looking to make a fresh bid for Martinez so it will be interesting to see how things progress over the next few days.
Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is believed to see Martinez as a left-back who could provide an alternative option to Kieran Tierney. Although he did play most of his football as a centre-half for Ajax last season, he is clearly very capable when in possession of the ball, as you can see in this video compilation:
