Charles Watts Confirms Arsenal Have Held ‘Informal Discussions’ With Agent Of 43M Rated Playmaker

Arsenal have held “informal discussions” with the representatives of Real Betis attacking midfielder Nabil Fekir, according to Goal‘s Charles Watts.

The reliable journalist does not go into detail about when the talks took place but it appears the Frenchman is still under consideration as a potential signing.

Mikel Arteta side’s pursuit of a new number 10 has hit a few roadblocks this summer already. Martin Odegaard appears likely to remain at Real Madrid, while Aston Villa outbid them for Emi Buendia.

James Maddison remains an option, although his £60m asking price is likely to be problematic, especially if the Gunners do shell out £50m on Brighton’s Ben White.

Reports in Spain suggest Betis are holding out for around €50m (£43m) for Fekir, which still seems pretty steep considering his profile and age. However, it is thought that the high valuation is down to his club owing Lyon 20% of any transfer fee.

If Arsenal can negotiate down the price, the France international could become a more viable option but, as Watts says, things haven’t gone further than preliminary talks at this stage.
