Ex-Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell says January signing Jorginho is already proving people wrong after his performance at Villa Park at the weekend.

The Italian international’s lack of pace was one of the main criticisms aimed at the player during his time at Chelsea but Campbell says he saw no signs of that being an issue against Villa:

“I thought Jorginho was superb in the centre of the pitch. People keep telling me he can’t play, he can’t get around the pitch. You know what? I thought he was outstanding.”

It’s probably best not to make any definitive judgments on Jorginho just three matches into his Gunners career but there is certainly cause for optimism, as Campbell right points out.

While he is a very different player to Thomas Partey, the 31-year-old is very capable with the ball at his feet, dictating play from deep-lying areas.

On top of that, Jorginho is very much a leader, who has experience of winning major competitions, so his presence, both on and off the pitch, could prove to be invaluable for Arsenal in the coming weeks and months.
