Tottenham Fan Pleads Guilty To Assault On Arsenal Player

The Tottenham Hotspur fan who was seen aiming a kick at Arsenal ‘keeper Aaron Ramsdale during the North London derby on January 15 has pleaded guilty to assault by beating.

Joseph Watts, 35, from Hackney, pleaded guilty before Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court. In addition to kicking out at Ramsdale, he also admitting to throwing four coins from the stands during the course of the game, though none of the coins thrown hit anyone.

Ramsdale had made his way towards the stands to collect his belongings from behind his goal, when Watts clambered over a barricade, stood on an advertising board and kicked out at the Gunners’ shot stopper.

He arrived in court with his hood up and a cap pulled down, in an attempt to obscure his face. He admitted he had been drinking before the assault, consuming no less than six pints.

In Ramsdale’s victim statement, which was read out in court, he said: “I’ve never had someone enter the pitch and kick me, I don’t think it’s acceptable that I should be assaulted at work.”

As a result of his actions, Watts will face an ‘immediate ban’ from Spurs game. His criminal sentencing is yet to be decided, with the hearing being adjourned until later.

Arsenal won the game 2-0, with goals coming through a Hugo Lloris own goal and Martin Odegaard.
