Borussia Monchengladbach sporting director Max Eberl has revealed that Denis Zakaria could leave the Bundesliga club very soon.
The Swiss international has less than a year remaining on his contract and Eberl claims there is likely to be some imminent news on the player’s future:
“On Zakaria, there is one or the other that is very specific. You have to see what happens in the next few days and weeks.”
Last month, reports in the German media claimed that Arsenal and Manchester City both made inquiries for Zakaria, while two Italian clubs Napoli and Roma are also said to be interested in the 24-year-old.
Considering the Gunners are looking for a playmaker, rather than another holding midfield player, it would be a surprise if the London club are leading the race for Zakaria’s signature.
A switch to Italy appears to be the most likely scenario at the moment, but we shall see how things play out. If Eberl’s comments are to be believed, we won’t have to wait long before finding out the player’s next club.
