Bukayo Saka, Thomas Partey, Leandro Trossard and William Saliba injury updates ahead of Arsenal v Chelsea

Arsenal have several key injury updates ahead of their London derby match against Chelsea this weekend.

Star players including Bukayo Saka and William Saliba have been carrying knocks in recent weeks.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is expected to provide further clarity in his pre-match press conference on Friday, but here’s what we know so far…

Bukayo Saka

Saka was left out of the squad against Manchester City and wasn’t involved with England over the international break.

“He felt something and then you are tempted to risk him, but he was unable to train yesterday so that put him out of the game straight away,” said Arteta.

“It’s a blow not to have him but we have lost players in recent weeks and have adapted to it. He is a really important player, there is no question about that, but the team has to use the resources that we have to make it, even without him.”

Thomas Partey

“Thomas was always only going to play 45 minutes,” said Ghana boss Chris Houghton.

“He has been out injured for three to four weeks, he came back for Arsenal last midweek, was on the subs bench for one game and played 20 minutes for the next game. So we knew he was only going to play 45 minutes.”

Partey is expected to be part of the Arsenal squad for the Chelsea game.

William Saliba

Saliba has been carrying a minor toe injury but is expected back soon. He could be involved in the game against Chelsea.

Leandro Trossard

Trossard’s impact in recent games saw him net the crucial goal in the win against Everton, but missed the win against Brentford due to a hamstring issue.

“He won’t be available (against Brentford),” said Arteta.

“He did some activity, that’s where he felt it. He hasn’t trained yet. Not available for tomorrow.”

Trossard didn’t play for Belgium during the international break and his return date is unknown, with an update expected from Arteta’s press conference on Friday.

Jurrien Timber

The summer signing from Ajax is currently recovering from an ACL injury which is expected to keep him out until 2024.
“To have the injury he has is a huge blow,” said Arteta.
“We recruited him with clear intentions and what he was bringing to the team was evident, but he’s not going to be able to do it this season. We have to adapt. These things happen, unfortunately, and we have to move on.”
