Journalist Fabrizio Romano has dismissed rumours linking Arsenal with Lille winger Edon Zhegrova and Chelsea midfielder N’Golo Kante.

The Gunners were reported to have tabled an official offer for Zhegrova last week, while reports at the weekend had indicated that manager Mikel Arteta may look to pursue Kante, but Romano has played down the London club’s interest in both players:

It is not completely surprising. The claims made about Zhegrova came from just one journalist, which was not backed up by any other sources. The Kante rumours were very speculative in the first place.

However, signing a winger and a midfielder are still likely to be on the cards. The pursuit of Lyon’s Lucas Paqueta appears to be gathering momentum, while Arsenal remain keen on Leicester’s Youri Tielemans.

A move for Leeds’ Raphinha seems to be dead in the water, but more options are expected to be explored before the transfer window closes next month.
