Arteta Targeting Swoop For Swiss International But Faces Fight With German Heavyweights

Arsenal are considering a move for Borussia Monchengladbach centre-half Nico Elvedi, according to reports in France.

Manchester City were reportedly interested in the Swiss international last year, and it appears manager Mikel Arteta has kept track of the defender since he was appointed Gunners boss.

Elvedi’s current contract expires at the end of next season, which means he could be available for a relatively low amount. However, Gladbach do have the option of extending his deal for a further year if he meets certain performance targets.

Whether that will affect Arsenal’s interest in the 23-year-old, it remains to be seen, but the London club won’t be alone in pursuing the defender.

Bayern Munich are also keeping tabs on Elvedi, which will certainly complicate matters. The Swiss defender is not the only Gladbach star the Gunners are believed to be scouting, with reports in the German media suggesting Arteta’s side are also keen on Alassane Plea.
