Arsenal Turn To Agger As Potential Vermaelen Replacement!

Denmark international, Daniel Agger’s future at Liverpool has been called into question following the arrival of £20 million Dejan Lovren from Southampton. The Reds already have Martin Skrtel, Mamadou Sakho, Kolo Toure and Sebastian Coates as central defenders and Agger is not guaranteed a starting spot in the first team.

He has already stated that he needs to be playing regular football otherwise he may be forced to contemplate his situation. He was in and out of the side last season and made just 20 league appearances; his lowest total in the last three years.

Arsene Wenger has loset club captain Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona after they agreed a £15million fee for his services. Since the Belgian has now left, Wenger could make a move for the unsettled Agger, who will reportedly cost £12 million.

However, they face fierce competition from his old club Brondby, who are desperate to re-sign the 29-year-old. According to the Daily Star, Brondby chairman Jan Bech Andersen said, “We will work really, really hard to secure Daniel but as he has also said, when he was here with Liverpool, the timing has to be right.”
