Arsenal Transfer Target Breaks Rib

Sevilla midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak has reportedly suffered a broken rib in the UEFA Super Cup on Tuesday. His team lost 5-4 after extra time to Barcelona, and the Pole suffered an injury that could halt the Gunners pursuit of the defensive midfielder. Arsenal are reported to have had scouts in Tbilisi, Georgia, to watch Krychowiak as Sevilla lost to Barcelona.

The Polish international has a €30 million release clause, something that has encouraged Wenger to go after the solid midfielder. Krychowiak joined Sevilla last summer for €5 million and has become a hit in the Spanish league. Helping Sevilla to the Europa League trophy will be the highlight, especially as he scored in the final. The deep-lying midfielder would certainly be a good move by Wenger and would bring solidity to the midfield which is currently lacking. He won’t score you goals, but he will certainly put in a shift in a defensive point of view.

Arsenal’s midfield is currently under scrutiny after the 2-0 defeat to West Ham, but the signing of a fresh face would surely turn the bad press around. As it stands, Francis Coquelin is the clubs only real capable defensive midfielder, something that has split fans and pundits alike. Some believe the Frenchman has what it takes to sit in front of the defence – the rest do not.

A statement on Sevilla’s official website read:

“The Pole’s return to training will depend on his pain threshold.”

“The team put in a titanic effort on Tuesday, Krychowiak even ending the game bandaged with a broken rib.”
