Christian Falk Ranks The Chances Of Arsenal Signing “Expensive” Dutch Ace As 4 Other Clubs Circle

Arsenal will be among the front runners to sign Paris Saint-Germain forward Xavi Simons, according to Bild journalist Christian Falk.

Earlier this week, his publication confirmed that the Gunners were interested in the Dutch international, along with RB Leipzig (where he is currently on loan), Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Inter Milan. Writing in his column for the Daily Briefing Substack, Falk said that Mikel Arteta’s side is a more likely destination than either Barca or Inter:

“Simons will be particularly expensive if PSG would be prepared to sell him. So I think there will be other clubs that also knock on the door; Leipzig have heard of Bayern’s interest and interest from Arsenal. This could be one of the clubs. There are also rumours of Barcelona – but they have no money! Rumours of Inter Milan… I also think this wouldn’t be a No.1 option.”

During his time with Leipzig, Simons has performed well, with 6 goals and 9 assists in 26 appearances. The German club are said to be keen on extending his loan for another year, but, as Falk mentions, PSG could yet contemplate a sale for the right price.

Simons could be Arsenal’s replacement for Smith Rowe

The 20-year-old has played the majority of his football on the right wing this season. However, the Gunners wouldn’t want to spend a significant fee on a player who would effectively be Bukayo Saka’s backup.

Simons can, though, also be deployed on the left wing and in an attacking midfield role. Following rumours that Emile Smith Rowe could join West Ham on loan and doubts over his long-term future at the Emirates, somebody could well be signed to replace him next summer. A January deal for Simons is not on the cards as he will remain at Leipzig until June.
