“A Very Big Investment” – Romano Reveals Arsenal Are Planning Double Swoop For Osimhen And 1 Other Player

Arsenal are planning to sign a striker and a midfielder for “important money” during the summer transfer window, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

While their plans are not set in stone yet, Romano claims Napoli forward Victor Osimhen is being pursued by the Gunners but they also want enough funds left over so they can recruit a player in the middle of the park:

“Let’s see if Osimhen will be too expensive because Arsenal want to do a very big investment also in the midfield.”

“Keep an eye on Arsenal this summer because in the midfield and in the striker position they want to invest important money.”

Which midfielder will Arsenal target this summer?

It is pretty clear which player the Gunners will make their number one priority. Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi has been on the club’s radar for a very long time.

The Spanish international was a target during the January transfer window last year but the deal didn’t go through as the player was keen on remaining in San Sebastian.

Whether Zubimendi’s stance on moving to the Emirates has changed, we shall have to wait and see. Arsenal already know how much it will cost to sign him. There is a €60m (£51m) release clause in his contract.

Can Arsenal afford to buy both Osimhen and Zubimendi?

With Osimhen having a €130m (£111m) buyout fee, it means that the Gunners would likely have to shell out around £162m to secure the services of the pair.

For the London club to pull off such a sensational double deal, though, they must ensure that they stay within the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules.

Sales may be needed first. The likes of Thomas Partey, Aaron Ramsdale and potentially Emile Smith Rowe or Eddie Nketiah could be offloaded to balance the books.
