Arsenal winger Nicolas Pepe is “set to join” Besiktas before the Turkish transfer window closes, according to 90min.com.

While the transfer deadline for most European countries was on Friday last week, Super Lig teams have until September 15th to complete their business.

Pepe has been in limbo since returning from a loan spell at Nice last campaign, having not been part of the club’s preseason plans. Manager Mikel Arteta said last week that the Gunners were trying to find a new club for the Ivorian:

“We are still looking for solutions. There is a lot of communication between his agent and the player and the club at the moment but there is nothing else to announce at the moment.”

It appears that Besiktas will be Pepe’s destination. 90min.com claim the Turkish side will only pay a “nominal fee” for the player.

Pepe could have left on a free

Earlier in the summer, it was even suggested that the 28-year-old’s contract could be terminated. The winger earns £140,000 a week according to Capology and Arsenal wanted to get his wages off the club’s books.

However, it seems like Besiktas will pay a modest sum to sign Pepe, although the Gunners will be taking a massive hit on the £72m they paid Lille for the player just over four years ago.

Could other players leave Arsenal in the coming days?

Cedric Soares is another player that could still leave the Emirates over the next week or so. Before the English window shut, it was reported that both Everton and Olympiakos were keen on snapping up the Portuguese international.

Even though a transfer to Goodison Park is now off the table, a move to Olympiakos is still a possibility. Like Turkey, Greece’s transfer window is still open, with the closing date being September 11th.
