Arsenal are interested in signing Galatasaray centre-back Victor Nelsson, according to reports in the Turkish media.

The Dane, who has been capped ten times by his country, has also been attracting attention from the likes of Tottenham and Sevilla.

However, Galatasaray have already rejected a number of offers for Nelsson, and it is believed that they will only sell up if a club matches his release clause.

The 24-year-old’s buyout fee is set at just €25m (£21.5m), which is not exactly a sizeable amount, so it is up to the Gunners whether they want to pay it or not.

Arsenal are in the market for a new centre-back

With Rob Holding having struggled to cope at the back end of the season, and William Saliba’s long-term future at the club still up in the air, recruiting a centre-half is something that manager Mikel Arteta will consider.

A number of names have already been suggested. The likes of Mohamed Simakan, Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba and Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi are all said to be of interest. We assessed their strengths and weaknesses in an article here.

Nelsson is another possible option that has been added into the mix. You would have to say that he has the least experience, having only played in Denmark and Turkey in his career, but his price tag means he could be a cost-effective replacement for Holding.

Arteta’s transfer priorities

While the Gunners are keen to bring in reinforcements at the back, the main focus this summer will be the midfield. With West Ham’s Declan Rice and Brighton’s Moises Caicedo top of the list of targets, a sizeable portion of the transfer budget will be invested in that area of the pitch.

It may mean that there are limited funds to invest in other positions so, for that reason, a move for Nelsson would make a lot of sense.
