REPORT: Arsenal Set To Miss Out On 39-Cap Midfield Superstar

Arsenal are believed to be interested in talented midfield gem Ruben Neves, who currently plays for Wolverhampton Wanderers – however, he is reportedly set to join Barcelona in the summer transfer window [via FootballFancast].

While Arsenal have reportedly submitted an offer for the player, he appears to be prefer a move to the Catalonian giants. The amount that Arsenal submitted for Neves is currently undisclosed.


Neves’ move to Barcelona could include a swap deal for talented winger Ansu Fati. Should Wolves wish to move him on, they will need to agree terms with Fati to complete the dea.

Who else, besides Arsenal, is interested in Ruben Neves?

As well as Arsenal and Barcelona, Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle United were believed to have had an interest in Ruben Neves.

Neves had been linked with a move to Liverpool for a number of years, despite nothing ever materialising on their end. Manchester United and Newcastle’s interest was also apparent, but neither club have ever made an official approach for the 26-year-old.

Ruben Neves career summary

Neves’ youth career began at Porto in 2005, who he joined at the age of eight. He made his senior debut for the club nine years later in a game against Marítimo, where he also scored his first professional goal.

In 2017, Neves made a shock move to Wolves while they were still in the Championship – despite being on the radar of several big clubs across Europe. It was seen as a massive coup for the Midlands club and for good reason.

Since then, he has made 219 appearances for Wolves, scoring 27 goals in that time (many of which have ended up on end-of-season highlight reels). Additionally, he has also enjoyed several call-ups to the Portuguese national team. He has won 39 caps for Os Navegadores, but has yet to score an international goal.
