Arsenal are “tracking” Wolves winger Pedro Neto and Brentford’s Ivan Toney, in addition to Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz, according to ESPN.
The website reports that Luiz is currently the priority target but any deal is likely to be dependent on whether they can offload Thomas Partey.
With the Ghanaian international currently injured, there are question marks over whether there will be any takers when the January transfer window opens.
However, if they manage to get Partey off the books, it would greatly increase their chances of securing Luiz’s signature, with Villa expected to demand a significant sum for the Brazilian.
Earlier this month, it was claimed that Villa had slapped a £60m price tag on the player, which is a figure the Gunners may not be prepared to match.
Arsenal could pivot to signing Neto or Toney
ESPN suggest that, if a deal for Luiz can’t be hashed out, sporting director Edu could then decide to strengthen other areas of the pitch instead.
Whether they will have any more luck with players like Pedro Neto or Ivan Toney, it is up for debate. Neither player is expected to be cheaper than Luiz.
Wolves are reportedly demanding £60m for Neto, while Brentford are said to value Toney at around £80m.
FFP restrictions could hamper the club’s plans
The Gunners had to sign David Raya on loan from Brentford in the summer as there was a risk that the club could breach Financial Fair Play rules. There will be the same concerns in January.
That is why selling players such as Partey and, potentially, Emile Smith Rowe, is so important as, without some departures, sizeable bids for the likes of Luiz, Neto and Toney can’t be tabled.
