Report Reveals That Arsenal Have ‘Explored’ Deal To Sign Player Who Thierry Henry Has Described As “Incredible”

Arsenal are one of two Premier League clubs who have “explored” a move for Paris Saint-Germain forward Kylian Mbappe, according to The Independent.

Both the Gunners and Liverpool are said to have investigated the possibility of securing the France international’s signature at the end of the season.

Mbappe’s contract at PSG is set to expire in June and it is increasingly likely that he will leave France, with the player said to have decided that he needs to move clubs.

Real Madrid were believed to be the favourites to snap up the 25-year-old on a free transfer but The Independent report that negotiations have hit a “stumbling block” over personal terms.

It has led to Arsenal and Liverpool being suggested as alternative destinations but there is a feeling that neither club would be prepared to break their wage structures either.

Mbappe earns an eyewatering amount of money

According to Capology, the World Cup winner is currently being paid £1.18m a week by PSG, which is more than 4 times what Arsenal’s highest earner, Kai Havertz, is taking home.

Of course, any team would love to have Mbappe in their ranks but it appears he is pricing himself out of a move to another European club. If he wants to continue receiving the same salary, he will either have to stay in Paris or move to Saudi Arabia.

An Arsenal legend is a big fan of the PSG star

Unsurprisingly, fellow Frenchman and former Gunners forward Thierry Henry has been full of praise for Mbappe, who has been a phenomenon since he burst onto the scene as a teenager.

Speaking in November, after Mbappe scored a hat-trick for France against Gibraltar, Henry said that the player has the ability to go on to even greater heights in the future:

“What this little one does is not nothing. It’s just incredible… the problem is when you are so good, people often see when you miss or when you’re not good.”

“We expect a lot of him, but he should just not have been so good! Joking aside, let’s be happy that he is French. How high can he go? 1000. I’m overdoing it, but honestly, it is Kylian that decides.”
