Arsenal, Manchester City and Tottenham have all “made enquiries” about Royal Antwerp midfielder Arthur Vermeeren, according to 90min.com.
The website claims that the three London rivals have taken a keen interest in the 18-year-old, who has been described as the next Andre Iniesta by some in the media.
Vermeeren has recently been called up by Belgium, having replaced Leandro Trossard after the Gunners winger tweaked his hamstring in the 1-0 win over Manchester City last weekend.
Manager Domenico Tedesco has been suitably impressed by Vermeeren’s start to the season and the teenager could get some minutes when Belgium take on Sweden at the start of next week.
What do Arsenal fans need to know about Vermeeren?
The midfielder came through the youth ranks at Antwerp before making his professional debut against Lillestrom in the UEFA Conference League in August last year.
Vermeeren then established himself as a regular starter, going on to help secure Antwerp’s first league title in 66 years. He has also won the Belgian Cup and Belgian Super Cup during his short time in senior football.
The youngster is very much a deep-lying playmaker by trade and, if he were to make the switch to the Emirates, there is a good chance that he would replace Jorginho.
Vermeeren is attracting interest from clubs in other countries
Barcelona are said to be keeping very close tabs on the defensive midfielder, having also faced Vermeeren’s team in the first group game of this season’s Champions League.
90min report that the likes of Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Juventus have been scouting the Belgian Under 21 international as well, so there will be a fierce battle for his signature.
Vermeeren did only sign a new three-and-a-half-year contract earlier this year so Antwerp won’t let him leave on the cheap.
