Palmeiras are expected to make defensive midfielder Danilo available for around €30m (£26m) during the January transfer window, according to reports in Brazil.
Arsenal are believed to have had a €25m bid turned down for the 21-year-old on deadline day last month, with Palmeiras not willing to sanction the player’s sale midway through the season.
However, with the Brazilian Serie A campaign ending in mid-November, Danilo is expected to be on the market in the New Year. At this stage, it isn’t known whether the Gunners will make another attempt to snap up the Brazilian.
A backup option for Thomas Partey was needed in the summer after Mohamed Elneny suffered a long-term hamstring injury but the Egyptian is likely to be fit again once the window reopens.
With that being the case, Danilo may no longer be seen as a priority. Technical director Edu may also look to target different midfield options such as Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz or Leicester’s Youri Tielemans.
