Arsenal Target Staying Put?

According to the Express, Arsenal target and Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata has declared his intentions of staying at the Santiago Bernabeu, despite reports suggesting the Spaniard would be on his way to one of the top clubs in England.

Arsenal have maintained their one point lead at the top of the Barclays Premier League, but the weekend also saw the other top sides in the league win all three points to keep the pressure on the Gunners. Arsene Wenger has realized that he will need to be very cautious with his team selections due to the injuries that have struck the club over the past few weeks. With Theo Walcott out for the rest of the campaign, the club would be keen on getting a replacement on the attacking front. Also, there has been perpetual pressure from the Arsenal supporters to sign another option to Olivier Giroud, who has carried the weight of being the club’s number one striker for the whole season.

With Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo playing exceptionally for Madrid this season, Morata has been short of opportunities when it comes to first team football. The Spaniard has an outside chance of making it for the Spain national squad for the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, and for that, he will have to get some first team football. However, Morata wants to take that chance in Madrid, even if that means a lesser number of games from now until the end of the season.
