Arsenal should reshuffle their squad and sign a central-midfielder this week

Arsenal are under intense pressure heading into the final 48 hours of the summer transfer window, as the Gunners look set to lose a wealth of first-team assets and need to secure new faces to bolster their ranks.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Alexis Sanchez are both pushing for an exit in the final days of the window, with the pair aiming to seal moves to Liverpool and Manchester City respectively, and the loss of two regular starters will hit Arsenal hard.

Oxlade-Chamberlain has impressed in a wing-back role for Arsenal in recent months, although Arsene Wenger’s side should be able to cope by utilising the likes of Hector Bellerin and Sead Kolasinac, but the loss of Alexis will leave a huge void in Arsenal’s attack.

The Gunners have been linked with many players who could be seen as a direct replacement for the Chilean superstar, including Leicester City’s Riyad Mahrez, Monaco’s Thomas Lemar and Paris Saint-Germain’s Julian Draxler, but signing a wide player to slot in behind the striker may not be the best course of action for Arsenal.

Wenger’s side need someone who can thrive in an attacking role behind main-man Alexandre Lacazette and alongside German World Cup winner Mesut Ozil, which means that signing a naturally central player may be the better option.

In fact, Arsenal may have the ideal player to fill the void already within their ranks as Aaron Ramsey could thrive in this position- having impressed in a number ten role for Wales during the past few years.

The Welshman’s attacking runs from midfield have been a major asset for Arsenal in recent seasons but they’ve also led to problems defensively, with the Gunners being left vulnerable on the counter-attack.

By moving Ramsey to a more attacking role, Arsenal will ensure they won’t leave themselves wide open in midfield and the best course of action would be to spend the money from a sale of Alexis Sanchez and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to sign a top-class central midfielder to play alongside Granit Xhaka.

OGC Nice’s Jean-Michel Seri has been mentioned, and would be a good option, and Sevilla’s Steven N’Zonzi also stands-out as a player who would provide a significant upgrade to Arsenal’s ranks in the middle of the park.

The danger for Arsenal is that they’ve left themselves with a lot to do with not too much time left in the window, so completing the transfers they need could be problematic.
