Arsenal are not expected to make a move for Borussia Dortmund centre-back Manuel Akanji despite being offered the chance to sign the player, according to reports in England.
The Swiss international is available for transfer this summer, with the defender having a year left on his contract, and the Gunners would be able to sign him for €25m (£21m).
However, Mikel Arteta’s side are not interested in recruiting a right-sided centre-half. They already have Ben White and Rob Holding in the first-team squad, and William Saliba will be returning from his loan spell with Marseille in the coming weeks.
Arsenal are said to be more interested in recruiting a left-footed player (to provide cover for Gabriel) instead and Akanji doesn’t fit the criteria.
It is believed that Dortmund may even drop their asking price below £21m before the summer transfer window closes, but it’s not likely that the Gunners would be tempted to make a bid, even then. Manchester United have also been credited with an interest in the player so he could still end up in the Premier League.
