Arsenal Weighing Up Bid For Swiss International Who Will Be Sold For 21M This Summer

Arsenal are considering whether to make an offer for Borussia Dortmund centre-back Manuel Akanji, according to reports in the German media.

The Swiss international is closing in on the final twelve months of his contract at the Bundesliga club and he is not believed to be interested in signing an extension.

Dortmund are, therefore, looking to sell Akanji this summer, and they are prepared to let him leave if a team offers around €25m (£21m) for the defender.

Manchester United have been regularly linked with the 26-year-old over the past year, but it does seem as if the Gunners are the keenest on snapping up the player at the moment.

With Pablo Mari likely to leave the Emirates on a permanent basis, manager Mikel Arteta will be keen on strengthening his options at the back. However, with William Saliba expected to return from his loan spell at Marseille, the club will have an additional defender in their squad anyway. It would raise a few eyebrows if Akanji is deemed a more suitable player than the Frenchman.
