The 22-year-old William Carvalho is one of the brightest stars to emerge from Portugal and he has been linked with a host of clubs across Europe this summer. Chelsea and Manchester United have shown an interest in the midfielder, but Arsenal have been heavily linked with the Portuguese international.

The Gunners have now made their interest official by submitting a bid in the region of £24 million. A report in the Metro suggests that the north London side are offering full cash payment at one go to tempt Sporting to sell their prized asset.

Wenger is targeting a new defensive enforcer and was previously linked with a move for Sami Khedira and Lars Bender. However, he has switched his attention elsewhere and now wants to make a move for Carvalho.

Even though Carvalho’s release clause is £37 million, Sporting are expected to accept Arsenal’s bid as they are offering straight cash for the Portuguese man.
