Arsenal Ponder PSG Star

Arsenal are considering a swoop for PSG forward Ezequiel Lavezzi. The Argentine is predominantly a winger, but can play as a centre forward which is a position Wenger is desperate to improve.

The Gunners are looking for a quality frontman this summer to add to their options, and they have already been linked with a whole host of strikers including Karim Benzema, Fernando Llorente and Edinson Cavani. However, it seems as if talks for all three of those have broken down.

Now it is reported that Arsenal have been offered Lavezzi, and are considering the 30-year-old as a cheap option to ensure they finish the summer transfer window with a capable player who won’t break the bank.

Lavezzi is surplus to requirements at PSG and has been touted with a move to various clubs over the summer, including his former club Napoli where he made his name as one of the best around, scoring 38 goals for the Italian side despite playing on the left.

The Argentine international, who has made almost 50 appearances, should be available for around £8.5 million which is a fairly reasonable price for someone with his CV. His wage demands would also be no problem, with the forward earning a reported £95,000-a-week.

Lavezzi looks to me like a Podolski-esque sort of player, someone who will end up as a squad rotational member of the team. His experience will help, and his presence could merit a positive reaction – but I still feel Arsenal need a real out and out striker.

£8.5m would be a great deal, and Lavezzi is a quality player. Is he what Arsenal need?
