Arsenal Out Of The Capital One Cup But Importantly Lose Another 2 Stars To Injury

Arsene Wenger put out a side with a number of debutants and youngsters last night against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough in The Capital One Cup but the side had a number of established senior players too. Unfortunately, the Gunners lost 2 of those senior stars when Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain came off early in the first half and Wenger’s men never recovered losing comprehensively to Carlos Carvalhal’s Wednesday side 3-0 in front of 30,000 crazy Owls fans.

It is disappointing for the Gunners to be out of The Capital One Cup but perhaps more distressing are the injuries to the seriously in-form Walcott and Oxlade-Chamberlain. After the calf injury to Walcott and the hamstring injury to Oxlade-Chamberlain, it means that Arsenal now have 8 senior players out.

The other players are Arteta (ankle), Ospina (shoulder), Ramsey (hamstring), Rosicky (knee), Welbeck (knee) and Wilshere (leg) with the last two being long term injuries. So unfortunately the Arsenal sick-bay is filling up again and we can only hope that players return to fitness faster than expected and that Arsene Wenger can bring in reinforcements in the Winter transfer window.

It would be such a crying shame if Arsenal do not have the ability to capitalise on their form in the Premier League and are to unable to really contest the trophy that they genuinely look capable of winning this season and ending their winless streak which now goes back to the 2003-04 season.
