Ex-Arsenal defender William Gallas thinks his former club’s goalscoring exploits have been “scaring” fellow title contenders Liverpool and Manchester City.
Mikel Arteta’s side have hit the back of the net 33 times in their last eight league matches and, speaking to Genting Casino, Gallas said that it is sending out a statement to their rivals:
“Arsenal’s performances over the last eight games – scoring so many goals – that is the perfect way for the club and the players to build confidence and the belief that they can win the title. Those performances from Arsenal will be scaring their opponents in the title race. Arsenal have been blowing teams away recently and have shown a desire to keep scoring goals.”
“They are on top of the league at the moment and they deserve to be there. They have sent a strong message to their title rivals and I think that Arsenal and Mikel Arteta’s players will believe that they can win the title this season.”
Arsenal will be keen to score more at the Etihad
With the Gunners taking on Manchester City in their next fixture, fans will hope that they can maintain their sensational recent form in front of goal when they face Pep Guardiola’s men.
The Etihad has not been a happy hunting ground in recent seasons but there is optimism that this team can take on the reigning champions on their own patch and get a result.
Arteta is targeting at least 90 points
Gallas seems confident that Arsenal can go all the way at the moment but, while a defeat at City wouldn’t be disastrous, it would certainly damage their chances.
After 28 games played, Arsenal sit top of the table on 64 points and, considering what Arteta has previously said about the points total that they need to win the league, they can’t drop too many during the run-in. To reach 90, they can only draw 2 of their final 10 fixtures.
