Seaman Defends £65M Arsenal Signing Who Is “More Of A Threat” Than Some Critics Realise

Arsenal legend David Seaman has sprung to the defence of Kai Havertz after a difficult start to life at the Emirates.

The German international has not hit the ground running since arriving from Chelsea for £65m earlier in the summer, but Seaman believes all of the club’s signings will end up making an impact:

“The players they’ve brought in have improved the squad and improved the team. Even [Kai] Havertz, you know he goes about his business and he’s more of a threat than people realise.”

It’s fair to say that the jury is still out on Havertz, after looking rather unconvincing in his first few games, and most supporters need to be convinced that he can make a telling contribution to the team.

Havertz has yet to hold down one position

The fact that the 24-year-old has struggled to settle in isn’t completely the fault of the player. Manager Mikel Arteta has to take his fair share of the blame as well.

While it was believed that the Gunners boss did have a plan about how to use Havertz, it has already become clear that the Spaniard doesn’t know what position the German is best suited for.

After starting as a striker in the Community Shield, he then was fielded in the advanced ‘8’ role against Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace. However, he ended the game at Selhurst Park playing up front once more.

Patience from Arsenal fans may be required

It is sometimes easy to forget that Havertz has still not reached his peak. Despite starting his fourth season in English football, you do feel that he hasn’t fully realised his potential quite yet.

Hopefully, Arteta is the man to unlock it. Otherwise, Arsenal may have wasted a sizeable amount of money in bringing the forward to the club.
