Arsenal are not concerned about the poor start that Kai Havertz has made to life at the Emirates, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The German international has not scored or provided an assist since he made the £65m move from Chelsea in the summer but, writing in his Caught Offside Substack column, Romano said the club are staying patient with the player, as he tries to adapt to a new position:

“It’s not been the easiest start for Kai Havertz at Arsenal, but I can guarantee there is no panic behind the scenes. Everyone at the club including Mikel Arteta wants to trust and support Kai.”

“They believe he’s an important player and he’s going to be protected by the club. There’s been a little uncertainty over his role, as he played mostly up front at Chelsea and is now in midfield with Arsenal.”

Havertz has not started the last two Premier League games

Despite there being no panic, though, it appears as if Arteta has already decided that the 24-year-old is not good enough to start for him in the Premier League, at least for the time being.

Fabio Vieira got the nod ahead of Havertz against Everton and Tottenham, although the German did come on for the second half of the North London derby at the weekend.

It was a risky purchase from the outset

Havertz has not really convinced since he arrived in England back in 2020. He scored just 19 times in 91 Premier League appearances for Chelsea.

Some claimed that the attacking midfielder was being played out of position, and Arteta was seemingly adamant he could get the best out of him. However, despite being played in a deeper role after moving to the Gunners, Havertz has still not shown any improvement.

A longer adaptation period may be needed but the early signs are certainly not too promising.
