Arsenal centre-back Gabriel is the “highest-rated centre-back” in the Premier League this year, according to WhoScored.com.
The website have given a 7.44 rating for his performances across all of his matches since the beginning of 2024.
Supporters on X have been quick to praise Gabriel’s form, although some feel he doesn’t always get the recognition he deserves as a defender:
We don’t hype this guy enough please we need to start doing that now

Undoubtedly the best defender in the EPL. He has been solid at the back. I am very much surprised that they are just bringing this stats about him. He’s born defender who scores more goals than some strikers in a season. Kudos to him

Gabriel’s form has gone under the radar
The Brazilian international has been part of a defence that has conceded the fewest number of goals in the Premier League this campaign. That is not down to pure luck either, with their xG against total substantially below (22.85) their nearest rival Manchester City (27.96).
Alongside William Saliba, Gabriel has been part of the most formidable defence in the top flight. Compared to his centre-back partner, though, he doesn’t always get the credit he deserves, and his form in recent months has been outstanding.
The Arsenal star is facing a battle to be fit for their next game
Gabriel withdrew from international duty due to a sore Achilles tendon and he has yet to return to training ahead of the Gunners’ fixture against City on Sunday.
It would be a big setback if the 26-year-old is sidelined for such an important match, especially when you see how influential he has been for the team this campaign.
