Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka withdrew from the England squad last week raising concerns about his fitness ahead of the top-of-the-table clash against Manchester City.
The 22-year-old is believed to be carrying a minor muscular strain and it was decided that he would not risk aggravating the injury during two international friendlies.
Saka subsequently returned to London Colney, where he is undergoing treatment with the hope that he will be fit enough for the trip to the Etihad Stadium.
The Gunners do have a record of playing down the seriousness of such injuries but there is optimism that he will be available this weekend.
