Declan Rice Reveals What “Shocked” Him After He First Arrived At Arsenal

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice says he has been struck by the club’s winning mentality since making the move to the Emirates.

The England international signed for a club record £105m from West Ham last month and, speaking in an interview with TNT Sports in the build-up to the Nottingham Forest game, he said the culture that manager Mikel Arteta has instilled has really impressed him:

“The moment I walked in the door, that’s the thing that shocked me the most how much it’s [the winning mentality] drilled into this club and the way the manager is drilling in the players about winning and not being far off, being one of the best teams in the world.”

“That’s what excites me. That’s why I came to Arsenal, to win, play under Mikel [Arteta], to play with the players. It’s such an exciting project to be a part of.”

Rice has gotten his Arsenal career off to a strong start

The midfielder looked impressive on his debut against Manchester City in the Community Shield, helping the Gunners secure the first trophy of the season.

He was again in good form in the match versus Forest, but he will be hoping to make an even bigger impression in the games to come.

Arsenal have a rather tough schedule coming up

Following the Forest fixture, the Gunners have a nine-day break before their next match against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park on Monday week.

A home clash against Fulham follows before they host Manchester United at the Emirates just before the international break. Rice and his team will have to be at their absolute best to get maximum points from those three games.
