Former Fulham and Chelsea goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer says that Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka is arguably the best player in the Premier League on current form.
There has been a lot of talk about the England international over the past week, with Rio Ferdinand questioning whether he is a “world-class” footballer, but Schwarzer claims that argument is irrelevant when you take into account his most recent performances:
“You can’t argue with the stats right? He’s now scored in five consecutive Premier League games, seven goals in those five games, 16 so far this season.”
“It’s whether you class him as world-class or just one of the best players in the Premier League. Currently, on form, you’d find it hard to find a player who’s in better form than Saka in the Premier League.”
Saka is in the best form of his life
As Schwarzer mentions, the 22-year-old has racked up 16 goals in all competitions, as well as another 13 assists.
That is the most goal involvements Saka has had in a single campaign and we are only at the end of February, with three months of football left to be played.
How does the Arsenal star compare to other Premier League players?
If we look purely at league goals and assists, there are a couple of players who do surpass Saka in terms of the numbers.
Manchester City’s Erling Haaland has hit the back of the net 17 times as well as creating 5 goals for others. Liverpool’s Mo Salah, meanwhile, has 15 goals and 9 assists.
Saka’s 21 goal contributions are just shy of those two players but his form for Arsenal has, nonetheless, been phenomenal since the end of the last year.
