White has excelled playing out of position
When Arsenal paid Brighton £50m for White, it was widely assumed that he would be a regular starter at centre-back. He did play regularly in that role during his first season at the Emirates but that all changed last year.
The return of William Saliba to the club forced manager Mikel Arteta into rethinking his backline, and White ended up playing at right-back. It wasn’t a position he was too familiar with but the switch ended up proving to be a success.
Odegaard could sign a new deal before White
While discussions are set to begin with White, it is believed that talks with Arsenal’s captain are at an advanced stage. The Norwegian’s current deal expires in 2025 and tying down the club’s talisman for the long-term is the number one priority.
Although nothing has been agreed at this stage, negotiations are going in a positive direction and there is an expectation that Odegaard will put pen to paper in the not-too-distant future.
