Arsenal Miss Out On What Could Have Been Their Easiest Target

Mourinho’s genius and the massive investments made during the past few years are what made the difference between the two equally balanced teams in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night. Arsenal clearly need to bring in some new world class players if they truly plan on ending their 8 and a half year trophy-less streak. Both defensive and offensive sections failed to meet up to expectations and were clearly dominated by footballers that are not even part of Chelsea’s starting eleven.

Even if Chelsea were the ones complaining about having to play two big matches in just two days, Arsenal were the ones that looked tired. This might be the result of Mourinho’s pre-match comments that led the Gunners to believe, the Blues would be unable to perform to their full potential.

Mou’s men dominated the match from the start. It was clear as day that if Arsenal want to become what they once were, they cannot depend on just one or two players. Cazorla, Ramsey and Ozil were the only ones that mattered. The German was a joy to watch and Santi showed incredible skill on several occasions. Unfortunately for Wenger’s team Azpilicueta’s goal made things bad for the Gunners who had just started to find their feet. This was another mistake on behalf of the Gunners’ defense who definitely need to focus more if they want to stay in front of the Premier League standings.

The first half of the Emirates game ended with Chelsea dominating Arsenal. There were little chances to score for the Gunners who looked powerless against players like Mata or Luiz.

The second half was pretty similar to what the fans witnessed during the first 45 minutes. Arsenal looked like they needed a few more players on the pitch. Bendtner was less than mediocre, Miyaichi non-existent and Rosicky lacked vision.

The match ended with Chelsea’s well deserved 2-0 win provided by the Spanish part of the team. Mata scored a right footed goal during the 66 minute, giving Arsenal no chance to advance to the quarter finals of the Capital One Cup.
