Arsenal Look Set To Miss Out On Primary Target For Technical Director Role

Monchi has posted a message on social media that suggests he may be returning to Sevilla.

The Spanish club’s president Jose Castro has already revealed they have held talks with the former Roma sporting director.

Yesterday morning, Monchi added fuel to the fire on Instagram that he would be coming back to Spain by posting the motto:

“The heart never forgets the place where it left its most beautiful beats.”

He then said: “Just this… which at times means a great deal.”

Arsenal were reportedly very hopeful about recruiting Monchi for their own position of Technical Director, but it appears they may now have to look elsewhere.

Director of Football Raul Sanllehi is said to be seeking some control over transfers that reportedly led to the departure of Sven Mislintat last month.

At Sevilla, Monchi would likely get the free rein over signings, and that may have swayed him if he rejoins the La Liga side instead of moving to the Emirates.

Ajax’s Marc Overmars was the other candidate in the frame for the Arsenal post. Whether the Gunners will make their move for the Dutchman instead if Monchi is confirmed as Sevilla’s sporting director, we shall see.
