Arsenal are seriously considering making an offer for Flamengo winger Matheus Martins, according to reports in the Brazilian media.
The Gunners are said to be keeping close tabs on the 17-year-old, who broke into Flamengo’s first team at the end of last year.
Martins is, however, attracting interest from at least three other European clubs, including Premier League rivals Manchester City, Ajax and Benfica.
It is believed that Flamengo have not received a formal bid for the teenager at this stage, but a battle could ensue for the player’s signature this summer.
Martins turns 18 in August, which is the age when he becomes eligible for transfers abroad, but there is nothing stopping Arsenal from agreeing a deal with Flamengo before then.
The London club have strong connections in Brazil, thanks to sporting director Edu, and they have had dealings with Flamengo previously, having signed Pablo Mari from the Brazilian side three years ago.
