Sassuolo striker Gianluca Scamacca has turned down interest from Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund, according to reports in the Italian media.
While the Gunners registered an interest in the 23-year-old, it is said that Dortmund had tabled a formal bid worth €45m ((£37.4m) for the player as the Bundesliga side seek a replacement for Erling Haaland.
However, Scamacca is keen on staying in Italy and Serie A champions Inter Milan are now believed to be favourites to secure his signature, having already agreed personal terms with the player.
While Scamacca is thought to have a promising future, his nine goals in 23 appearances this season hardly makes him a standout candidate in terms of Arsenal’s pursuit of a new number nine.
Reports suggest that Mikel Arteta’s side are focused on signing Real Sociedad’s Alexander Isak, Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin or Lille’s Jonathan David. If they can’t secure one of these players before the transfer window closes, they may seek a short-term solution, with a loan deal for Real Madrid’s Luka Jovic being touted.
