Arsenal Eyeing Shock Move For World Cup Winner Who Once Cost 107M

Arsenal are keeping tabs on Antoine Griezmann’s situation at Atletico Madrid, according to Fichajes.net.

The French World Cup winner is currently on loan at the La Liga club, with his move from Barcelona set to be made permanent at the end of the season if he plays enough games.

It is believed that the purchase clause will be triggered if Griezmann plays 30 minutes or more in at least half of Atletico’s matches this campaign. However, the forward has only made two substitute appearances so far, both coming after the hour mark.

There is a suspicion that Atletico are trying to ensure that they don’t meet the criteria to sign the 31-year-old. Atletico’s option to buy is said to be worth €40m (£34m), which is substantially less than what Barcelona signed Griezmann for in 2019.

The Catalan club paid €120m (£107m) but the France international ended up returning to the Wanda Metropolitano two years later. If Atletico decide they don’t want to keep the player either then Fichajes.net suggest there is a chance that Arsenal could take over the loan deal in January.

It is not believed that the Gunners are trying to get a move in place for Griezmann this summer so this could be a transfer to keep an eye on over the coming months.
